April 2026 saw us embark on one of our most rewarding projects yet: a full inspection of 46 veteran fig trees across the Newcastle region. These giants—some standing strong for over 100 years—are more than trees; they’re part of Newcastle’s identity, shading playgrounds, lining historic streets, and anchoring beloved community spaces.
The City of Newcastle entrusted The Tree Advisor with assessing each fig’s condition and future prospects. Through detailed structural analysis and health evaluations, we developed practical recommendations to reduce risk and support long‑term vitality. Our goal was simple: help ensure these treasured trees remain safe, resilient, and able to continue enriching the city for decades to come.

The Tree Advisor supervised the pruning of this extremely large Ficus Elastica (Rubber Tree) in Kangaroo Point at the beginning of August 2026. The tree was subject to a Brisbane City Council - Permit to interfere with protected vegetation that allowed for minor amenity and remedial pruning to be conducted under the direction of an AQF Level 5 Consulting Arborist. The tree is an enormous specimen with an approx. 50m canopy spread. Works on Significant Landscape Trees are heavily regulated in Brisbane LGA and require expert guidance to ensure they comply with legislation and that the trees are adequately retained and protected.
